Dental implants offer a permanent solution to missing teeth. This innovative treatment offers an alternative to a denture or dental bridge. With a dental implant, you can eat, laugh, and smile with confidence again.

A small titanium screw is placed in the jaw where it fuses with the bone. This provides a strong anchor for a dental crown. The result is a tooth that looks and feels just like your natural teeth.

Dental implants in Beverly Hills

Dr. Lasry is proud to offer dental implants to residents of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. Dental implants offer a permanent and fixed solution to missing teeth. Gaps in your smile can damage your confidence, and they can also impact your oral health. When there are gaps in your teeth, surrounding teeth may shift out of alignment. The opposing tooth can also extrude out of place as there is no opposing force in the bite.

Until recently, the most common solution to a missing tooth was a dental bridge or a partial denture. While these are highly effective treatments for aesthetic concerns, they do not encourage the correct function of the tooth. A dental implant is placed in the jaw and acts as an artificial tooth root. The force of your bite is then distributed across the jaw instead of across the adjoining teeth. This means you can eat all of your favourite foods with confidence again.

The dental implant procedure

The dental implant procedure takes place over multiple visits. Every patient journey will be different depending on several factors, including time since extraction and the number of implants required.

Step one
Every journey starts with a patient consultation to ensure you understand the options and how the treatment will progress. Dr. Lasry will also examine your mouth, gums, and teeth to ensure you are in good health for the treatment.

Step two
If you decide to go ahead with treatment, Dr. Lasry will create a small pocket in your jawbone. A titanium implant is placed in the pocket and then the gum is sutured closed. This will be left to heal, allowing the implant to fuse with the bone in a process known as osseointegration.

Step three
After this is healed, Dr. Lasry will expose the top of the implant and attach a healing abutment to the top. This will be visible above the gum line and will allow him to contour the gum to look as natural as possible.

Step four
Once this is healed, it’s time to place your dental crown, and the restoration is complete. Your new dental implant will be load-bearing and ready for you to enjoy your favorite foods again. You will be given aftercare instructions to help care for your dental implants.

Bone grafting for low bone density

During your consultation, Dr. Lasry will examine your bone density to ensure you have sufficient bone volume to support an implant. If you have waited a long time for the restoration, you may have experienced some bone loss at the site. This is a normal reaction to the loss of a tooth. If you have low bone density, Dr. Lasry may recommend bone grafting before dental implants. This can be completed in our dental office, so there is no need for a referral.

Bone grafting involves taking bone from another part of the mouth or using a natural bone substitute to help encourage bone growth. Bone grafting can help to restore the facial structure by preventing the sunken appearance that can happen with tooth loss. You can read more about bone grafting for dental implants here.

FAQ about Dental implants

If you want to say goodbye to your denture and smile with confidence again, dental implants can help. This treatment provides a fixed and permanent solution to missing teeth, allowing you to eat, laugh, and smile with confidence again. Patients often report an improved quality of life as a result of this unique restoration.

A good candidate for dental implants is free from periodontal disease and is committed to good oral hygiene. This restoration relies on careful aftercare to ensure the implant remains secure and does not fail. A dental implant can last for 20-25 years with the correct care.

There are a few situations that would make you unsuitable for dental implants. If you smoke, this increases the risk of implant failure, so it would be practical to commit to quitting before starting treatment. Uncontrolled diabetes, blood clotting disorders, cancer, and issues with the immune system will also make you an unsuitable candidate for dental implants.

While both treatments offer a practical solution for missing teeth, only dental implants offer a restoration that looks and feels like a natural tooth. Since the dental implant sits in the jawbone, this provides a sturdy anchor for the abutment and dental crown. This means that the force of your bite is distributed across your jawbone, instead of across the adjoining teeth. Dental implants can help to maintain facial structure by preventing bone loss.

The entire healing period may last between 6 weeks to 6 months, depending on your treatment plan. After the initial implant placement, the healing time will be the same as for any other oral surgery. You may need to take it easy for a few days to give your gum and jaw time to heal. We will advise you on at-home care advice to help
